NASSAU (AFP) — Joseph Blatter, president of world football’s governing body FIFA, on Sunday unveiled the name of the 12 venue cities for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The announcement came after two days of FIFA executive committee meetings in the Caribbean.

As expected, five major cities will host games, including the capital Brasilia (Mane Garrincha stadium), Rio de Janeiro (Maracana), Sao Paulo (Morumbi), Belo Horizonte (Mineirao) and Porto Alegre (Beira-Rio).

Three cities where the stadia must be built were also selected: Natal (Estrela dos Reis Magos), Recife-Olinda (Arena Recife-Olinda) and Salvador (Arena da Bahia).

News - FIFA to pick Brazil cities for 2014 World Cup

ZURICH (AP) - FIFA’s ruling committee will decide this weekend which 12 cities in Brazil will host matches at the 2014 World Cup, football’s governing body said Monday.

The 24-man Executive Committee must choose from 17 candidate cities at a May 30-31 meeting in Nassau, Bahamas, that sets the stage for FIFA’s annual Congress next week.

The panel will also hear progress reports from organizers of the eight-nation Confederations Cup — a test event for the 2010 World Cup — being played in South Africa next month, and attempts by suspended federations Ethiopia and Kuwait to regain full status within the global body.

Article - Brazil wind energy sector taking off

May 20 (Reuters) - Brazil’s wind energy sector is expected to take off this year, boosted by the government’s first auction for projects in the renewable energy source on Nov. 25.

Following are some of the main investments, current and planned, in the sector.

- Enerfin, a unit of Spain’s Elecnor (ENOR.MC: Quote, Profile, Research), operates the biggest wind park in Brazil, the 150 MW Osorio complex in Rio Grande do Sul state, through Brazilian firm Ventos do Sul. It plans to double that capacity.

- Spain’s Iberdrola (IBR.MC: Quote, Profile, Research) operates the 50 MW Rio do Fogo wind farm in Rio Grande do Norte state, and is expected to participate in the November auction.

News - China, Brazil Sign Oil Deal

China has agreed to lend $10 billion to Brazil’s Petrobras, in return for guaranteed oil supply over the next decade. The deal was among a host of agreements signed during Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s state visit to China, which ends Wednesday.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Brazilian President Lula da Silva witnessed the signing of 13 agreements in Beijing.

The highlight was a $10 billion loan from China Development Bank to Brazil’s state-owned Petrobras oil company. In return, Petrobras is to supply China’s state-owned Sinopec with up to 200,000 barrels of oil a day for the next 10 years.

News - Brazil Company Hiring Outpaces Job Losses This Year

May 18 (Bloomberg) -- Brazilian companies hired enough workers in the past three months to offset the plunge in employment in January, putting the net number of government- registered jobs created this year into positive territory.

The Brazilian economy generated 106,205 jobs in April for a total of 150,202 government-registered jobs in 2009, the Labor Ministry said in a report distributed today in Brasilia. Job creation in February, March and April offset the loss of 101,748 jobs in January.
