On the streets and on the lips of radio and television broadcasters, Brazilians are abuzz with Olympics talk, and there is the distinct sense that this famous party city is ready to explode on Friday with a delirium rivaling its famed New Year’s and Carnaval celebrations if the vote for the 2016 Games goes Rio’s way.

News - Brazil’s 2016 Olympic Bid Gets Presidential Push

The easiest job in the world belongs to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as he supports Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics.

All da Silva has to do is say “Rio has the most beautiful beaches in the world,” and he has an instant audience.

He made this simple statement Tuesday in throaty Portuguese, with English translation, and right away I was picturing the long foamy waves and Corcovado in the background and, well, all right, I was also picturing “The Girl From Ipanema.”

Article - History, beauty, and stew on Brazil’s coast

PARATY, Brazil - When North Americans visit this country, they usually come to see Rio’s famous beaches or to conduct business in São Paulo. Few visit this enchanting colonial town, a National Historic Site that lies on the coast between them (205 miles from São Paulo, 154 from Rio). Founded in 1667, Paraty (pronounced par-ah-CHEE) served as an important port for shipping gold to Portugal. Now it is best known for the approximately 300 beaches and 65 islands nearby.

Paraty’s historic center, which is closed to cars, is a treasure of white 18th-century colonial buildings, many with marine blue or deep gold trim and wrought-iron balconies. Because the streets are made of cobblestones, it takes tourists a while to get comfortable looking anywhere but at their feet.

Mega-resort Aquiraz Riviera, a venture promoted by the Portuguese-Brazilian consortium, has launched on 26^th June the first phase of sales of residential lots in its tourism and real estate project. The first phase includes 312 lots, with a 1,000 sq meters average area. Realtor Lopes Immobilis is in charge of commercialization of what will be the largest tourism venture of international standard in Brazil.

Located in Marambaia beach in Aquiraz, about 25 km away from Fortaleza, Ceará, the mega-venture  will be the largest international standard tourism development in Brazil, with an estimated total value of US$ 350 million. The Aquiraz Riviera has a total area of 285 hectares, approximately 1,800 meters of ocean front and is developed by a consurtium, Aquiraz Investmentos  SA, which includes the entrepreneur Ivens Dias Branco and the portuguese Ceara  Investment Fund, Grupo Hoteleiro Dom Pedro and Grupo Solverde.
