News - Brazil’s Economy to Grow Faster Than 4%, Barbosa Tells O Globo
July 19 (Bloomberg) - Brazil’s economy will expand 4 percent to 5 percent by year end as lower interest rates bolster growth, Nelson Barbosa, the economic policy secretary, told O Globo newspaper.
Brazil will grow 1 percent to 1.5 percent in the second quarter compared with the previous quarter, Barbosa said, according to the Rio de Janeiro-based newspaper.
The central bank still has space for more interest rate cuts, he said.
Levels of debt relative to gross domestic product may see a small rise this year, with the ratio resuming its decline in 2010, he said, according to the newspaper.
